Originally nicknamed “the deuce,” ESPN2 was initially branded as a network for a younger generation of sports fans featuring edgier graphics as well as extreme sports like motocross, snowboarding, and BMX racing. This mandate was phased out by the late 1990s, as the channel increasingly served as a second outlet for ESPN’s mainstream sports coverage.

MTV is an American network based in New York City that launched on August 1, 1981.[1] The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by on-air hosts known as VJs.[2]

At one time, MTV had a profound impact on the music industry and popular culture. Slogans such as “I want my MTV” and “MTV is here” became embedded in public thought, the concept of the VJ was popularized, the idea of a dedicated video-based outlet for music was introduced, and both artists and fans found a central location for music events, news, and promotion. MTV has also been referenced countless times in popular culture by musicians, other TV channels and shows, films, and books.

Animal Planet was created in cooperation with the BBC by Discovery Communications on October 1, 1996.

On January 1, 1997, Animal Planet’s distribution grew as a result of Discovery Communications, buying the channel space of WOR EMI Service (a national feed of New York’s WWOR-TV), that was implemented in the light of the SyndEx laws enforced by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

It is available throughout the United States, as well as in over 70 countries around the world.

Country-specific versions of the channel have been created in Canada, India, Japan, Taiwan and other countries.

The National Aquarium in Baltimore has an exhibit of “Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extreme”. It opened in late 2005 in a multi-million dollar expansion. Animal Planet and the National Aquarium in Baltimore (in 2004) announced a multi-year partnership which produced an original orientation film that gives Aquarium visitors background on the Australian area which inspired the new exhibit and a dedicated area inside the expansion where visitors can learn about Animal Planet’s conservation efforts and other programming. The partnership also has possible future productions of TV programs about the National Aquarium in Baltimore’s research and exhibits.

Find Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Playhouse Disney TV shows, original movies, schedules, full episodes, games, and shows on the go! Disney XD is a brand of children’s TV channels worldwide targeting young males,[1] owned by The Walt Disney Company. The channel was formerly known as Toon Disney and/or Jetix in most areas. According to Gary Marsh, President of Entertainment for Disney Channel Worldwide, “XD” does not “stand for anything” and was chosen simply because it looked “cool”. Marsh notes that “the letter X has many cool associations” and that “the beauty of it is the audience can imbue it with all sorts of positive attributes.”[2] The “XD” in the Disney XD logo is written in the Exablock font, even though the font made its official debut a couple months after the channel’s US launch.

The standard format for The Comedy Channel’s shows usually involved the various hosts introducing clips culled from the acts of stand-up comedians as well as classic comedies of the 1970s and 1980s, such as Young Frankenstein and Kentucky Fried Movie, presented in a style similar to music videos. In the early days, certain hours of the day when clips were shown without “host segments” were dubbed Short Attention Span Theater. In 1990, hosts under this title, Jon Stewart and Patty Rosborough, were introduced. Comedian Marc Maron also hosted the series.

While The Comedy Channel broadcast mostly low-budget original programming, Ha!’s schedule featured sitcom and sketch comedy reruns (many of which had been previously licensed for sister network Nick at Nite) as well as complete 90-minute reruns of Saturday Night Live from the sixth through sixteenth seasons.
